Film Composers, Foley Artists and Sound Designers-the unsung heroes of movies!

Did you know that 80% of the sound in movies is made and recorded separately from the action shooting of the film?

In music classes we have been exploring a little of the history of sound in movies and the important role that music and sound effects  plays in our film watching experiences.

These amazing people behind the recreated sounds that make our films so realistic and believable no matter what their genre are called Foley Artists and Sound designers and are some of the most creative people in the industry.

We will be having fun creating our own sound effects and music to poems, stories and cartoons, learning skills and and appreciating more fully the power sound has to affect  our emotions and drive the story line and drama of  film.

Explore for yourselves further the sound design behind some of your favorite movies. For me, ‘Star Wars’ was  a particularly fascinating one to investigate, not forgetting also the superb music of John Williams, but more on him later!
